An adjustable bed is a mattress on an adjustable base (also called an adjustable bed frame or bed base) whose head and foot rise on their own, at the touch of a remote. Golden Dreams Mattress is a private showroom in Carlsbad, in North San Diego County. We carry 4 Custom Comfort adjustable bases, starting at $1,095, and every fitting is one-on-one. New to all this? Here's how an adjustable bed works.

A-400 Plus adjustable base in zero gravity with a mattress, Carlsbad showroom

AdjustableBasesWe Carry in Our Carlsbad Showroom

The best adjustable bed to buy depends on 3 things: the features you'll actually use, whether you share the bed, and your budget. Custom Comfort makes all 4 bases we carry, and each one uses an Okin motor. Each step up adds features, with starting prices from $1,095 to $2,495.

A-200 Plus for platform beds

The A-200 Plus is our lowest-priced base, starting at $1,095. It's low profile, so it sits right on a platform bed, slat system or storage bed. You get head and foot lift, an 11-button wireless remote control with a flashlight, and leg heights of 2, 2.5, 5 or 9.5 inches. It has no massage.

A-300 Plus with timed massage

The A-300 Plus starts at $1,595 and adds dual-wave massage with a 10, 20 or 30-minute timer, so it stops on its own. It also has anti-snore, which Custom Comfort calls Quiet Sleep, and a 20-button backlit remote with a flashlight. Headboard brackets are an optional $30 kit.

A-400 Plus with lumbar support

The A-400 Plus starts at $1,895 and adds variable lumbar support, so you set how firmly the base pushes at your lower back. It's a wall-hugger, which keeps you close to your nightstand as the head rises. Dual USB ports on each side charge your phones, and headboard brackets are included.

A-500 Plus with full incline

The A-500 Plus starts at $2,495 and is our top model. Full incline tilts the whole base head up while the sleep surface stays flat, which is nice for reading or watching TV. Massage works at both head and foot. You also get two dual USB ports, a 22-button backlit remote control, emergency power-down and surge protection.

Which AdjustableBed Features Are Worth Paying For?

The features worth paying for are the ones that match why you want an adjustable bed. Choose by need: lower-back comfort, snoring, sore muscles or sitting up in bed. Here's what each feature does and which of our bases has it.

Zero gravity: This preset raises your legs and head together, with your legs slightly above your heart. Many people find the zero gravity position eases pressure on the lower back. It's on the A-200 Plus, A-400 Plus and A-500 Plus.

Anti-snore: Also a preset, it lifts your head a few degrees with one button, which can help quiet snoring. It's on the A-300 Plus, A-400 Plus and A-500 Plus.

Massage: Dual-wave massage comes on the A-300 Plus, A-400 Plus and A-500 Plus, and the A-500 Plus works at both head and foot. Here's more on massage on an adjustable base.

Lumbar support: The A-400 Plus and A-500 Plus add adjustable lumbar support, so you can add support right where your lower back wants it. If that's your main reason for shopping, read our guide to choosing a base for back pain.

Full incline: Only the A-500 Plus has it. The whole base tilts head-up without folding, so you sit up straight instead of bending in the middle.

What MattressWorks on an AdjustableBase?

Our adjustable bases pair with every mattress we show in our store, and with most any mattress purchased elsewhere. That means you can choose what feels right for your body first, then add the base. A base can't make up for the wrong comfort, which is why every fitting starts there.

Think of it this way: what you lie on is the part you feel, and the adjustable bed frame is the part that moves it. The two need to work together. That's why we demonstrate each base on the exact model you're considering, so you can feel it raise, lower and lie flat before you choose.

Split King AdjustableBeds for Couples

A split King is 2 Twin XL bases placed together to make one King-size bed. Couples choose it because it lets each side move on its own when you want it to. Every King and California king base we sell comes this way, on all 4 models, so the option is always there.

Before you decide, compare split king mattress options, check split king dimensions against your room, and read our guide to adjustable beds for couples. Then bring your partner to your fitting so you can both try it, and ask us which setup suits the way you both sleep.

Adjustable Bed Questions We Hear Most

Here are the questions we hear most on the showroom floor, with our answers.

Will an adjustable base work with my current bed frame and headboard?

Usually, yes. The base sits inside most bed frames with the legs on or off, and the leg height adjusts so the mattress lands where you want it. If you have a platform, slat or storage bed, the A-200 Plus is low profile and sits right on top. Headboard brackets come with the A-400 Plus and A-500 Plus and are a $30 add-on for the A-300 Plus. Send me a photo of your bed before your appointment and I'll tell you what fits.

Do we need a split King, or can we share one base?

We recommend split bases for every King and Cal King. They're 2 Twin XL bases side by side, which makes them much easier to move through hallways and up stairs. They also keep your options open: you can start with one King mattress, with both bases moving together, and switch to 2 Twin XL mattresses later if you want each side to adjust on its

own. That lets one of you sit up and read while the other lies flat. If you sleep in different positions or one of you snores, a split mattress is worth considering from the start. We'll try both ways at your fitting.

Will it actually help with my snoring, back pain or acid reflux?

For a lot of people, yes. Raising your head a few degrees can help open the airway, which can quiet snoring, and it can help keep stomach acid down. Zero gravity takes pressure off your lower back by raising your legs slightly above your heart. It isn't a medical treatment, and it won't fix a mattress that's wrong for your body, which is why we fit the mattress first and the base second. You'll feel the difference in about 2 minutes at the showroom.

How much does an adjustable bed cost?

Our Custom Comfort bases start at $1,095 for the A-200 Plus. At the top of the range, an A-500 Plus in King or California king size is $4,990. Prices vary by size and are current as of October 2026.

How long is the warranty?

Every base we carry has a 1-year manufacturer's warranty plus a 20-year limited warranty. You can add an optional 10-year extended protection plan for $250 to $300, depending on size.

What are the disadvantages of adjustable beds?

It costs more than a standard base, and ours start at $1,095. A base also needs room to move and an outlet nearby. Send us a photo of your bed before your fitting and we'll tell you what fits.
